Raising Godly Children

I am currently reading the book of Psalms each day because the chapters are encouraging and I find the psalms easy to read when my mind is all over the place.

This morning I decided to pick up where I left off but to turn on the audio and let it read for me while I struggled to get out of my big comfy bed.

I thanked the Lord for a new day and asked him to give me strength. I walked to the bathroom to get myself together while the NLT version played beautifully in the background (with soft music too!) Then,

I immediately ran out of the bathroom when I heard Psalms 78:5-8 (NLT).

For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.

Friends, there is no greater priority in my life other than raising my children for the Lord. As long as I live, I will serve the Lord and teach my children his ways. I will also practice what I preach! My desire is for them to know God personally so that they can win in this life and trust in God for every want and need. I have sought the Lord and he answered me. In my high and in my lows, God has been there for me. God is love and there’s no other like him. Even when I go home to be with him (at an old age), I want my children to be serving God and letting their light shine. I want to see them in heaven where we can all enjoy eternity together. Everywhere we go, people tell us how smart, beautiful, and well-mannered my children are, and I give all the glory to God!

The Bible tells us to live godly lives and to teach our children his ways. This is the ideal life. This is the way our children will be blessed, protected, and provided for.

This is not a choice for Christian families, so let’s stop picking and choosing how we want to serve the God of the Holy Bible. It is our responsibility to raise our kids right so that we can be fruitful and multiply, prosperous, healthy, successful, leaders and not followers, lenders and not borrowers, heads and not tails, etc.

We have to seek to please God and not man. We can’t go with the flow or simply follow cultures. We have to put God first if we want to win in this life, have blessed children, and stand before God with confidence!
