Sermon Notes: Sinning After Being Born Again

Hello! I am a member of Dr. Creflo Dollar’s, World Changers International Church in Georgia. Last Sunday, 12/27/20, his sermon was titled ‘Sinning After Being Born Again.’ I soaked it all up and wrote down notes in my notepad to share with you. This message provides clarity for Christians who have felt condemned and unworthy. Pastor Dollar shares with us how to overcome these feelings and to walk in victory this new year!

Notes

All people who are born again are 100% righteous.

Q: Can you lose righteousness as easily as we received it after sinning? Or do we become partially righteous and need cleansing?

Grace is NOT a license to sin. There are consequences for sinning.

As long as we’re alive, we’re going to “miss the mark.” We are not perfect.

We became righteous by faith. (Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness: Rom. 4:3).

Self-righteousness is unrighteousness (sin).

Change the way you think to receive victory in 2021

2 Keys for victory over the bondage of sin

  1. I have a new identity and I am a new creation
  2. I have the gift of righteousness

2 Types of people

  1. In Adam (not born-again)
  2. In Christ (received gift of righteousness)

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22, NKJV).

Those IN ADAM are spiritually dead.

“And so it is written, ‘The first man Adam became a living being.’ The last Adam became a life-giving spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45).

New life: No carnal life based on senses or the sinful nature.

Old life: The old man or body of sin.

“The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:47).

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

“When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
 ‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:12-21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If you want to change and live a life pleasing to God, get IN CHRIST.

There’s a difference between sin/sinner.

We do not become a sinner again because we sin. Jesus’ blood is stronger than sin in your life.

It’s not about behavior but nature.

Get to the root – change the fruit!

“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.”
 ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:5-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Believe you are the righteousness of God and a new creation and you will produce righteous fruit.

The bad things you do – It’s not who you are. RENEW YOUR MIND!

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—”
 ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1:30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The good new is that Jesus is our righteousness.

A: We cannot lose our righteousness unless Jesus lost His!

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
 ‭‭I John‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Propitiation: sin offering, peace offering

Jesus Christ already took care of our sins.
